My top 10 movies of 2010

Everyone has their own list of favourite movies that they had watched over the year, and this is my list. For some strange reason, I listed all the movies that I had watched in 2010, and surprisingly I watched ONLY 19 movies, not a great number for someone who claimed to be a fan of movies. Getting the best 10 out of 19 was, as anyone would have guessed it, quite easy. So here are my 10 best movies in no particular order;

1. Avatar

It opened in cinemas in December 2009 but it had a long run. I watched it in January 2010 so the movie made the list. Not to put the movie in the list would be stupid, as it was one of the best movie that I had watched in the cinema. Good story, good visuals, good acting; what not to like about Avatar?

2. Toy Story 3

Definitely the best movie out of the series, and the most funny (with laugh-out-loud scenes like the one with Spanish-talking Buzz Lightyear) and emotional as well. The last scene where Andy finally decided to part with his toys (especially Woody) was one of the best goodbye scene I watched in an animation. Great job Pixar, great job indeed.

3. Inception

Seriously, it was kind of confusing and complex to follow but it was also engaging and keeps the audience thinking all the time. The visuals were awesome and the story was good too but for me the best part about the movie was the concept. A dream within a dream? I love it! Oh, and great ending too.

4. Resident Evil: Afterlife

I know many Resident Evil video game fans hate the movie series. But I like the video games, and I like the movies too. Although I think I like Apocalypse and Extinction more, but Afterlife does has it own strengths. The feel of the movie was slightly different than it predecessors and I kind of like the changes. Love the settings too; high-tech underground facility, maximum security prison, seemingly-abandon ship. Great opening (Tokyo!) and good ending. But best of all; the return of Jill Valentine! Yes, it was just a cameo but it was worth it. Hopefully we get to see her more in the sequel. Oh, and I LOVE Milla Jovovich too.

5. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I like Narnia movie series, it kind of sad though to see it struggle in the market. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a movie with a simple plot but heavy dose of fantasy and high moral values made it a great movie. Not to forget the good acting from the young stars of the movie. Hopefully the studio will continue making movies from the series because it will be a waste if they don't.

6. RED

A surprise entry in the list. RED, the movie starring Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren (with guns!), is a great and fun movie. The plot seemed heavy but it was just a light movie about retired agents running around. It was fun. I like it. End of story.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

What can I say? Everyone already knows it's a great franchise. What I like most about this movie is that it is emotionally-charged. They were sad, angry, alone, scared and there were a lot of pain. Quite dramatic if you asked me but that's why I love it. Can't wait for the movie that will end it all.

8. Devil

Another surprise entry. Didn't know anything about the movie before I watched it and now I can't wait for the second movie in the series. It's serious drama in an odd place. I mean, in an elevator? That's kind of cool.

9. How to Train Your Dragon

I can't believe how much I'm in love with this movie. It's very heart-warming to see the bond formed between the boy and the dragon, and the plot was great with a slight twist in the end. I personally think this movie give Toy Story 3 a run for its money for best animation of 2010. I love it, I love it, I love it. Did I tell you that I love this movie?

10. Clash of the Titans

I heard (or read I think) that many critics hate this movie. It does look kind of foolish with the facial hair and glittering custom but the overall story was great. And it has mythical creatures in it. What not to like about that? Well, I do have a weakness when it comes to Greek mythology (God of War comes to mind), maybe that's why I like it so much. Not to mention Sam Worthington was in it. He's such a good actor. I'm crossing my fingers that they will make a sequel for this movie. Hopefully they will.

And there you have it. My top 10 movies of 2010. Some are highly-rated while others were condemned by the critics. I do have a complex taste in movies don't you think?

CeleBRITion! My top 5 favourite Britney's singles

I'm so sorry. I couldn't resist myself.

Here are my Top 5 Favourite Britney's Singles.

5 ~ Me Against the Music feat. Madonna

It's catchy and just makes me want to stand up and dance. I absolutely love the fast-part before the chorus (sorry, I don't know what its called). There are a lot of good tracks in In The Zone, (Britney's fourth studio album and where this track came from) but Me Against the Music is absolutely one of the best.

4 ~ ...Baby One More Time

Addictive and infectious. When I first heard the song, I fall in love with it. One of the reason I love Britney is because of this song. I reckon she would not be as famous as she is today if it wasn't for this song. Max Martin (writer & co-producer of the song) really knows how to produce a good pop song.

3 ~ If U Seek Amy

I know the lyrics is somewhat inappropriate but the song is so addictive that I don't really mind about it. Another track by Max Martin (he co-wrote and produced the song), this song sparked another controversy in Britney's career. No need for me to explain more on that. Anyway, the strong pop sound with easy sing-along chorus, this song is one of the standout track in Circus (Britney's sixth studio album and where the track came from).

2 ~ Break the Ice

The first moment I heard the song (in my cousin's car through her newly purchased Britney's CD), I was stunned by it. It was soooo good! In fact, I think it's the most well-produced track among all Britney's singles in terms of music, lyrics and appeal. It's sexy, flirty, and hot. Absolutely the best track in her Blackout album (Britney's fifth studio album and where the track came from).

1 ~ Born to Make You Happy

As an avid pop song lover, I unquestionably crazy over this pure bubblegum pop song. It's my personal favourite single from Britney Spears and that's why its on top of this list. It got a bit of sad tone in it which makes me fall in love with the song even more. Did you know that the track was originally written to sound sexual? Hard to believe isn't it since the released track sound so innocent.

And there you have it, the top 5 of my favourite Britney's singles. Britney Spears latest compilation album, The Singles Collection, had already been released in certain region so if you like her songs, please don't forget to buy it.

CeleBRITion! My top 5 Best Britney's videos

Yes, I'm a huge Britney Spears fan. Well, nothing obsessive, I just love her music and style. So hopefully you guys wouldn't mind me counting down my top 5 Best Britney's videos to celebrate the release of her new greatest hits album, The Singles Collection, on November 24, 2009. At first I want to do my top 5 favourite Britney's music videos but that proves to be too hard for me to decide (because I like almost all of her videos!). Hence I come out with this one, the top 5 Britney's videos that I think the best that she had come out with so far.

5 ~ I'm A Slave 4 U

Okay, this video is hot. I was surprised to see the change of attitude and art direction when I first saw it but it's still a great music video nevertheless. The theme, about the drought-affected city-dwellers, is very interesting. Combine that with sexy dance moves, and you have an awesome video. And I also like the lighting effects that make everything appears...hot! (I mean literally).

4 ~ Toxic

Definitely one of the hottest and sexiest Britney's video. Taken from her In The Zone album, this addictive song had even won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2005. The airplane scene is very funny and I think Britney looks hot when she dyed her hair black in the video. Although the diamond scene is way too sexy for minor, but I think her face looks prettiest during that scene.

3 ~ Lucky

I know not all would agree with me on this one. The song would sound too pop for most people but I just love pop songs, that's why I love Lucky. I really like the story and settings for this video. Plus, I put it so high up in the chart because I like the theme of loneliness that it brings. It kind of makes me feel sad. :'(

2 ~ Me Against the Music

The combination was flawless. I mean it's Britney Spears & Madonna, should I say more? Love the settings, love the dance moves, love the outfits, love the chase scenes (although it's a bit controversial in the end). I think Britney's appearance for this music video is her best look yet. Did I mention that I really like her outfit?

1 ~ Womanizer

So this is it! The number 1 spot for Best Britney's music video! I think this video is very, very classy and stylish. It's totally in a different league compared to the rest of her videos. Plus it featured the best looking male model (his name is Brandon Stoughton by the way) among ALL her music videos so far. The story is funny and together with the addictive beat, we have one amazing and unforgetable music video. Britney (and of course Brandon and the rest of the dancers) rock!!!

So there you have it, the best of the best of Britney's music videos (according to my standard of course, LOL). Don't forget to buy her greatest hits album when it come out. Peace!

I had only watched about half of the movies in the list and some of my favorite are Dawn of the Dead (2004), Poltergeist, Scream and Saw. I wonder how Alien got into the list, I thought that movie was more to sci-fi than horror. Anyway, some other horror movies that are my favorite but not listed in the list are House of Wax (2005), Night of the Living Dead (1990) and Urban Legend.

There are a lot of cool horror movies in Asia too. Some of the popular one that were made into Hollywood remake are The Ring (Japan), Ju-on (Japan) and Shutter (Thailand). But my favorite Asian horror movies are One Missed Call (Japan) and Long Khong (Thailand). Korea have several cool horror movies too like A Tale of Two Sisters (I like this!), Phone, Doll Master and Face. Malaysia have Jangan Pandang Belakang (translated as Don't Look Back) and Congkak. Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore have their own popular horror movies too.

Asians can never seem to get bored of horror movies. I don't know about you but I think it's fun to be spooked off whether in the cinema hall or in front of the TV.

Top animated movies

Yahoo! give us the top 30 animation movies from their users reviews today.

Here are the top 5:

1- Finding Nemo
2- Kung Fu Panda
3- The Incredibles
4- Spirited Away
5- The Lion King

Finding Nemo tops the chart, no surprise there. It is one of my fave movies. Surprisingly Kung Fu Panda landed at no. 2 despite just been screened early in June this year. It must have got a lot of positive reviews. The Incredibles is just great, so no argue there.

Spirited Away at no. 4. Wow, I was surprised. I didn't think Japanese anime could ended up so high in the chart. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE anime! I didn't watch Spirited Away though. But I did watched Princess Mononoke and what a superb anime it was. So I bet Spirited Away is just as good too. And at no. 5 is The Lion King which is one of the best drawn animation I had ever watched. Actually, I like 2D animation. Sadly there didn't make much anymore. Kids these days aren't into 2D. Well, maybe except for anime.
